As I browse through yard sales and thrift stores, I’m always looking for things that can be renewed and reused. Sometimes, new ways in which items can be utilized are simple – replacing frame glass with mirror glass, for example. Other times, they’re not so cut and dry. I had always admired the ornate patterns and designs of different spoons I had seen, but I didn’t have a need for more eating utensils. Instead, I found a different way to utilize their beauty – bend them.
One of my favorite parts of the process is the very first step. Stick your hands into the utensil bins and start looking for handle patterns. Once you start finding patterns you like, it’s hard to put them down. This one has a great floral pattern! These ones remind me of Grandma’s spoons! These ones have my initials engraved on them! The hardest part about making them into hooks is choosing which one to start with. Once the selection is made, all it takes to turn a spoon into a spoon hook is some hammering, drilling, bending and fastening.
These spoons have quickly become one of the most versatile items we create. They can be used for just about anything – we’ve seen them hold everything from coats and towels to dog leashes and extension cords. To start imagining how you could use them, click here.
